What Is Consent? Why is it Important?
Updated: May 27, 2018
Consent is based on choice, and is active, not passive. Consent is only possible when there is equal power. Consent means 2 or more people deciding together to do something with each other.
Consent is not true consent if going along with something is a reaction to fear, wanting to fit in, or avoid being hurt. Also, people cannot give consent when under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.
Being unsure means not being able to give consent; if you cannot comfortably say "no", then "yes" has no meaning.
If you're unwilling to accept a "no", "yes" has no meaning.
